背景：9月份开启了新的学年，然而美国不少公立学校的校长却为人员的不足而烦恼，尤其是教职类岗位的缺人。疫情之前，公立学校的人员缺口是20%，而现在缺口已达两倍。正如美国所有的教育相关问题一样，人员紧张并不“公平”地影响所有的学校。低收入区域的学校人员紧张更为明显，且不断有公立学校的老师为了更好的待遇跳糟到私立学校去。例如，帕特森市的一所高中，几乎600位学生上的科学课没有全职教师，只能由代课老师轮流授课，或者集体上网课。甚至有些班级连老师也没有，只能在其他科老师的监督下集体自习。疫情这几年，我们看到了近50年来最大的学业成绩滑坡，黑人和白人学生之间的差距显著加大。虽说病毒面前人人平等，但最无法抵抗颓势的总是最脆弱的阶级和人群。
